About The Position

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. Staffed by a talented team of leading professionals, The Hospital of Central Connecticut provides a wide array of services throughout the region, caring for patients from birth through the end of life. In consultation with and supervision of the Pharmacy Managers and Director, this role establishes and implements policies, procedures, and standards to help ensure efficient workflow and patient care in a defined area or work group. This role provides direct supervision to a defined group of pharmacy technician staff in a defined area. It works collaboratively with stakeholders outside of the department to ensure the work group is meeting customer expectations. The role collaborates with staff pharmacists and technicians in all aspects of Pharmacy operations (including computer systems) to meet the goals and objectives of the Pharmacy Department. It provides pharmacy staff operational guidance to the area of focus and has the ability to staff in a technician role within the work group.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
  • Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection required by March 31st of each year.
  • Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician from a recognized certification board within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in business or health care field preferred
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
  • At least five years’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician in a Hartford HealthCare facility preferred
  • National Certification as an Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred

Responsibilities

  • Makes recommendations to Pharmacy Manager and Director to ensure operational pharmacy practice in assigned area is optimized
  • Provide direct oversight to staff in defined work group including annual work performance appraisals.
  • Leads daily/weekly/monthly work group meetings/huddles in assigned area as defined by pharmacy leadership team
  • Interfaces with outside stakeholders to ensure patient and customer needs are being met
  • Provides flexible scheduling coverage and assists in fulfilling staffing and on-call requirements in both routine and unforeseen circumstances in accordance with departmental and hospital wide needs.
  • Maintains general pharmacy competencies and continuing education as well as competency in specialty role.
  • Proactively works with management to foster a culture of patient safety and acts upon and reports safety concerns appropriately and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Assist Pharmacy leadership team with quality and regulatory tasks.
