The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Products supports one of Cleveland Clinic's highest-volume inpatient pharmacies at Main Campus, serving a broad range of areas including general inpatient care, oncology, sterile products, operating room pharmacy, and pediatrics. Caregivers rotate through various pharmacy functions, including medication delivery throughout Main Campus, carousel operations, triaging medication requests, answering phones, and managing MAR messages to support pharmacy teams across the hospital. This role involves frequent movement throughout different departments and offers opportunities for cross-training across multiple pharmacy areas, including IV, ambulatory, specialty pharmacy, and homecare, based on department needs and caregiver competencies. A caregiver in this position will work variable shifts between 6:45am to 3:15pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm, with approximately three weeks on day shift followed by one week on second shift. Caregivers participate in an every third weekend rotation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of inpatient hospital and IV Sterile Compounding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
