About The Position

This job delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures. Responsibilities include refilling and maintaining automated dispensing machines, pricing manual medication orders, inventorying and reordering stock, entering data into a computer system, printing labels, reviewing physician's orders, entering patient medication orders, identifying order problems and notifying pharmacists or nursing for clarification or patient information. The role also involves accurately compounding IV Admixtures and other preparations utilizing aseptic technique, maintaining stock in assigned areas, and performing clerical duties such as typing, answering phones, filing, and greeting healthcare professionals. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of college or completion of a para-professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Refills and maintains automated dispensing machines.
  • Prices manual medication orders.
  • Inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy.
  • Enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary.
  • Reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system.
  • Identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed.
  • Accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures.
  • Maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas.
  • Performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.
  • Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities.
  • Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas.
  • Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds and enters TPN orders into the computer system.
  • Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Maintains and complies with its Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
