About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician II at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center is responsible for accurately and promptly filling medication orders, preparing sterile and non-sterile preparations, managing automated dispensing machines, and maintaining inventory control. This role supports departmental goals through teamwork and contributes to patient satisfaction by handling requests professionally and efficiently. The position involves aseptic technique for IV preparations, knowledge of hazardous drug handling, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of medication distribution and returns. The Pharmacy Department serves multiple outpatient areas, including infusion centers, retail pharmacies, and health clinics, with a focus on providing safe and effective medication use integrated into patient care teams.

Requirements

  • Accurate and prompt filling of medication orders.
  • Accurate preparation of extemporaneous preparations.
  • Routine stocking of all areas.
  • Accurate replenishment of carts, trays, boxes, and kits.
  • Legible signing of all associated paperwork.
  • Ability to note problems on patient profiles for pharmacist follow-up.
  • Performance of cart/bin exchanges, bulk medication transfers, and returns.
  • Checking dating on multiple dose medications and replacing medications/supplies.
  • Professional and timely handling of requests via phone, window, fax, and computer.
  • Distribution of orders to pharmacists for processing.
  • Delivery of medications via pneumatic tubes, hand-delivery, and courier.
  • Sorting of returns from nursing stations.
  • Teamwork and flexibility in roles and responsibilities.
  • Compliance with departmental coverage guidelines.

  • Review of batched IV medication levels, batching, documentation, and prompt storage.
  • Checking rates and status of IVs and assisting in coordination of treatments.
  • Strong knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, total parenteral nutrition, and safe handling of hazardous drugs.
  • Accurate and prompt filling of automated dispensing machines.
  • Filling stock outs, fixing failed drawers, and delivering discrepancy reports.
  • Removal of expired medications and recording destruction.
  • Review of daily compare reports and processing reconciliation sheets.
  • Resolution of daily equipment problems or escalation and follow-up.
  • Performance of monthly inspections of automated dispensing machines.
  • Accurate repackaging of oral medications.
  • Ensuring all products are bar-coded and placing ancillary labels when necessary.
  • Checking expirations on all medications, pulling outdated products, and segregating them for return/destruction.
  • Retrieval of recalled medications from all stock locations.
  • Obtaining medications when needed and putting supplies away.
  • Prompt and courteous answering of phones, window, and door.
  • Ability to handle problems/issues independently.
  • Participation in performance improvement and cost savings initiatives.
  • Support and active participation in departmental and system initiatives.

  • Fills automated dispensing machines accurately and promptly.
  • Fills stock outs, fixes failed drawers, and delivers discrepancy reports.
  • Removes expired medications and records destruction.
  • Reviews daily compare reports and processes reconciliation sheets in CII safe.
  • Resolves daily problems with equipment or escalates and follows up.
  • Performs monthly inspections of designated automated dispensing machines.
