About The Position

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent, as part of the Pharmacy team, performs complex duties such as manufacturing various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy; performs order entry duties; measures, manufactures, compounds, packages; organizes and distributes medications; assists with the purchasing and receiving; and performs other related duties. The position makes decisions with regard to: quantity of items packaged/compounded; quantities of medication required including compounded parenteral products; determines quantities of supplies stocked in dispensary inventory in consultation with Pharmacy Manager and performs purchasing/receiving duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy drugs and to measure, manufacture, compound, package, and distribute medications
  • Analytical skills
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Basic computer skills, including typing
  • Ability to operate related equipment
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary work team
  • grade 12 diploma
  • graduated from a nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician course including a hospital pharmacy practicum (or judged equivalent experience)

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience
  • National Certification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC)
  • registration with a Canadian College of Pharmacy
  • Meditech experience
  • 6-12 months, experience preparing chemotherapy
