About The Position

As a full-time, non-exempt, Pharmacy Technician, you will assist in various pharmacy activities under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Your responsibilities will include preparing, delivering, and restocking medications; performing order entry; procuring drugs; billing. You will carry out your job duties according to written procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements. This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:30pm as well as one Saturday shift a month from 7:30AM to 11:30AM. Western State Hospital is an acute care adult psychiatric facility operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The hospital serves the most western 34 counties in Kentucky. All referrals for admissions come from one the four Community Mental Health Centers serving in the four regions of Western Kentucky. Western is an acute care hospital that is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • KY Pharmacy Technician license
  • PTCB Certification
  • Recent experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications by measuring, counting, labeling, and packaging prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
  • Process prescription orders accurately, including entering patient and prescription data into pharmacy systems
  • Assist pharmacists and healthcare providers by gathering necessary information and supporting workflow efficiency
  • Prepare and compound medications (including IV admixtures and sterile products) following hospital protocols and USP standards
  • Process medication orders from electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) with accuracy and urgency
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas, including automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and nursing units
  • Maintain medication inventory by restocking, tracking controlled substances, and monitoring expiration dates
  • Support medication safety initiatives, including double-checks, labeling, and documentation
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure timely and safe medication delivery
  • Comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state/federal regulations
