About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician I assists the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications. The Pharmacy Tech counts/measures proper dosage forms, selects appropriate containers for dispensing, and labels products accurately in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Tech also mixes pharmaceutical preparations. All new hires will begin at the base wage of this position. Pharmacy Technician I: $27.00 to $31.19. Hmong and Spanish speakers who successfully pass a language exam will receive a minimum additional .75 hourly differential to their wage.

  • Ability to effectively represent ODCHC’s interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among co-workers, public, private, and professional groups.
  • Strong computer skills with specific aptitude in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Adheres to ODCHC’s policies and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current and in good standings Pharmacy Technician registration from the State of California Board of Pharmacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a retail pharmacy environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs data entry, including patient demographic, billing, medical history, and prescription information.
  • Maintains the waiting prescription bins daily.
  • Effectively triages customer’s questions and needs to the appropriate staff member.
  • Processes prescription sales using the POS system.
  • Answers phone calls and triages calls effectively.
  • Addresses customer’s basic questions regarding wait times and medication in-stock position.
  • Conducts customer outreach calls regarding compliance and routine matters in accordance with the patient management program.
  • Follows up with insurance companies in a timely manner regarding prior authorizations and billing.
  • Receives inventory and updates perpetual counts as per policy.
  • Receives and stores incoming supplies.
  • Conducts inventory rotation (first in first out) to minimize drug waste.
  • Monitors prescription pick and practices Return to Stocks (RTS) in a timely manner per the pharmacy protocol.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and projects.
  • Upholds patients’ rights including privacy and confidentiality.
  • Supports pharmacy clerks and backs them up when necessary by performing such duties as: accurately operating and maintaining cash drawer via POS system; etc.
  • Provides excellent customer service as evidenced by a willingness and ability to assist customers with their questions/concerns, treating customers in a friendly and helpful manner, and maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Follows cold storage management protocols.
  • Prepares and coordinates medications for shipment following.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.
