About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists in ensuring the availability, quality, continuity, and appropriateness of pharmacy services. Work must comply with applicable Virginia Board of Pharmacy regulations, the bounds of the job description, and the Pharmacy Department Policies and Procedural Manual. Pharmacy staff must also abide by accreditation standards for Mail Order Pharmacy and Specialty Pharmacy.

Requirements

Computer skills.
Attention to detail, thoroughness, and follow-through.
Problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
Respect for patient confidentiality.
On-the-job training and experience under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to prepare for certification, or previous certification.

Pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Update and register patients in the pharmacy database.
Assist pharmacists with filling and refilling prescriptions.
Assist with processing and reconciling prescription insurance claims.
File and maintain prescriptions in an orderly manner.
Answer patient phone calls about prescription refill requests and related matters.
Help patients enroll in pharmacy assistance programs.
Receive and process incoming drug orders.
Assist pharmacists with prepackaging drug items.
Help maintain adequate stock of prescription drugs for dispensing.
Maintain adequate dispensing supplies, including bottles, jars, and vials.
Requisition and maintain pharmacy office supplies.
Help keep the pharmacy department and dispensing equipment clean and orderly.
Assist pharmacists in maintaining proper security over pharmacy inventory.
Assist other departments in obtaining patient, prescription, or billing data to support patient care and billing.
Attend work as scheduled.
