This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Depending on the facility, responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding, sterile IV admixture, and medication admission histories. The role also involves inspecting medication storage areas, seeking additional duties when work is complete, and potentially assisting in training other technicians. The Pharmacy Technician I supports area leaders, performs data entry for record-keeping and billing, and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, they may be responsible for operating a vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
