About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician I role at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is a PRN position focused on days. This role involves the timely and accurate preparation, delivery, and storage of medications, utilizing technology where appropriate. The technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of their own work, maintaining required competencies, and adhering to departmental quality improvement and patient safety standards. This position also involves ongoing professional development, managing one's own time, effective communication, and building positive working relationships. The technician will train new employees on routine tasks and share responsibility for minimizing pharmaceutical costs and discovering process efficiencies. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with patients, impact care through the 'meds to bed' program, and cross-train in the main hospital pharmacy. The work environment is described as professional, laid-back, and supportive, with opportunities to work on the upper end of one's license.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent required
  • RPhT - Registered Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire required
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English language, computers, the ability to adapt to various software systems, and basic math including conversions, proportions, ratios, and algebra.
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year pharmacy retail experience is strongly preferred
  • Other IV Certification Upon Hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurate preparation, delivery to the nursing units/appropriate departments & storage of medications, including (when appropriate) the use of technology to do so, varies by location.
  • Ensuring accuracy of one's own work as well as the maintenance of required competencies, and other documentation.
  • Must reflect consistently departmental quality improvement and Patient Safety standards, programs, and initiatives.
  • Ongoing professional development and growth, leads by example, perpetuates accountability, manages own time.
  • Communicate effectively, develop positive working relationships and role model teamwork that reflects the Texas Health Promise Behaviors.
  • Trains new employees on routine tasks, under the direction of designated personnel.
  • Shares the responsibility for minimizing pharmaceutical costs (including wastage) and discovering new process efficiencies.
