About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Tech procures, prepares, packages, and distributes prescription drugs and pharmaceutical supplies. The role maintains IV records and patient profiles and manufactures and prepares sterile products. Other related duties may be required.

The position has medium physical demands. Lifting may reach 50 pounds, and carrying may involve objects up to 25 pounds. The job includes occasional to frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, and close eye work such as using computers, typing, reading, and writing. Physical demands may vary by assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental exposures may include blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, gases, fumes or vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot or cold temperatures, indoor or outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient-care or handling injuries, and radiation. Shift work and travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required; conditions vary by assigned work area and tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be registered with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy.
• Certification as a pharmacy technician through completion of an accredited technician training program, a national exam, or current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Certification must be maintained through continuing education requirements for continued employment.
• Demonstrated mathematical skills to calculate and prepare dilutions, reconstitutions, and compounded products.
• Individuals with experience who are not certified may be hired contingent on achieving certification within one year of employment.
