About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Tech II performs functions related to dispensing medications. Technical functions include proficiency in IV processes, problem-solving skills, and involvement in quality improvement. The role includes preparing Total Parenteral Nutrition and/or chemotherapy admixtures, maintaining IV-room quality, and supporting medication distribution and technician training.

Requirements

At least one year of experience or state-approved certification when available.
Must obtain a Tennessee Board of Pharmacy technician license by the end of the first 90 days of employment and maintain the license in active status thereafter.
Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the required license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

Perform all position accountabilities and performance criteria for a Level I technician.
Prepare Total Parenteral Nutrition and/or chemotherapy admixtures.
Maintain quality aspects of the IV room.
Clean and maintain specialized equipment.
Calibrate the auto mixer for TPN.
Establish and maintain par levels for necessary supplies.
Collect and assimilate data for quality assurance and improvement activities.
Assist the pharmacist in training Level I technicians.
Verify floor stock and cart-fill medications as directed by the pharmacist in charge.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required annual education assignments.
Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
