This role assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution. The Pharmacy Tech I is responsible for accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution, procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. The position involves performing nonsterile compounding and potentially sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique. Additionally, the role includes inspecting medication storage areas, documenting controlled substance handling, and completing medication admission histories where applicable. The Pharmacy Tech I may also assist in training other technicians, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and support area leaders. Responsibilities include obtaining patient information, data entry into the pharmacy system, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle for deliveries.
