Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The Pharmacy Tech I also assists with medication distribution tasks, screens phone calls, and handles daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves supporting area leaders, data entry into the pharmacy system, and potentially performing third-party billing functions. Depending on facility needs, the Pharmacy Tech I may obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision, and may operate an Advocate Health-owned vehicle for deliveries.
