Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This includes accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The role also involves assisting with medication distribution tasks, screening phone calls, and managing daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Specific duties may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The Pharmacy Tech I is expected to seek additional duties when regular work is completed and may assist in training other pharmacy technicians and extenders. They must abide by all organization policies and procedures, comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and support area leaders. Additional responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, third-party billing functions, and potentially performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle for medication delivery may also be required.
