About The Position

The Pharmacy Sales Technician supports pharmacy operations by performing the functions and duties of a Pharmacy Service Representative and helping ensure prompt service. The role includes entering prescription and patient information, processing insurance, accepting new and refill prescription information, and assisting with prescription preparation where permitted by state law. The associate also helps maintain the department and supports inventory-management processes. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, plus 600 practical hours working in retail and/or pharmacy operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Responsibilities

Perform all functions and duties of a Pharmacy Service Representative to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
Enter prescription information into the computer, including patient and prescriber searches, drug selection, prescription interpretation and entry, insurance billing, and basic problem resolution.
Accept customer and prescription information needed to process new and refill prescriptions, including refill authorization from doctor offices where permitted by state law.
Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law.
Create prescription labels and place them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
Place medication into prescription containers where permitted by state law.
Complete prescription-filling paperwork and enter customer and prescription data into the computer system where permitted by law.
Help keep the Pharmacy department clean and in order.
Assist with inventory management, including order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.
