About The Position

The Pharmacy Sales Technician performs pharmacy service representative functions to support prompt service in the Pharmacy Department. Duties include entering prescription and patient information, helping process new and refill prescriptions, retrieving and preparing medications where permitted by state law, completing related paperwork, maintaining the department, and assisting with inventory management. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, plus 600 practical hours working in retail and/or pharmacy operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Responsibilities

• Perform Pharmacy Service Representative functions to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
• Enter prescription information into the computer, including patient and prescriber searches, drug selection, prescription interpretation and entry, insurance billing, and basic problem resolution.
• Accept customer and prescription information needed to process new and refill prescriptions, including refill authorization from doctor offices where permitted by state law.
• Retrieve appropriate medications from inventory where permitted by state law.
• Create prescription labels and place them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
• Place medication into prescription containers where permitted by state law.
• Complete prescription-filling paperwork and enter customer and prescription data into the computer system where permitted by law.
• Help keep the Pharmacy Department clean and orderly.
• Assist with inventory management, including order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
• Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.
