About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by working alongside a Clinical Pharmacist to provide safe and effective patient care within the Mercy Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Resident will provide safe and effective patient care in collaboration with the health care team, to a diverse range of patients, including those with multiple co-morbidities, high-risk medication regimens and multiple medications following a consistent patient care process. They will ensure continuity of care during patient care transitions between care settings, manage formulary and medication-use processes, and evaluate and investigate practice, review data, and assimilate scientific evidence to improve patient care and/or the medication use system. The resident will also prepare, dispense and manage medications to support safe and effective drug therapy for patients, and provide effective medication and practice-related education to patients, caregivers, health care professionals, students and the public. They will effectively employ appropriate preceptor roles when engaged in teaching students, pharmacy technicians, or fellow health care professionals. The resident must follow Mercy's safety guidelines, carry out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly report any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the following patient age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Meet objectives, goals, and activities as outlined in ASHP pharmacy residency accreditation.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in pharmacy or related field, required.
  • Registration as an Iowa Pharmacist Intern should be obtained before hire.
  • Iowa Pharmacist License required.
  • Should obtain by August 31st, but must be licensed and verifiable with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy by the end of the last business day in September in the year of hire.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.
  • Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
