The Residency Program Coordinator, under the direction and supervision of departmental Managers and/or Directors is responsible for the administration of the residency program as outlined in the American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP) Residency Program Requirements. This role is a key contributor to the development, maintenance, and quality improvement of the residency program, ensuring the residency provides the best experience for the individual resident and that the resident is meeting the overall objectives of the program. The coordinator may serve a number of functions, varying based on the needs of the individual program. They maintain competency in medication therapy management services, both clinical and distributive tasks as necessary, in collaboration with other providers to assure that drug therapy is safe, effective, efficient, and cost-effective. The role also involves taking a leadership role in departmental quality improvement efforts, contributing to the advancement of the profession through research, publication, and presentation, and participating in the development of drug and disease state-based clinical practice guidelines that influence clinical practice. The Residency Program Coordinator is recognized as the expert in their area within the organization, possessing specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in their discipline and/or function. They interpret internal and external issues and recommend solutions/best practices, solve complex problems, and take a broad perspective to identify solutions, potentially leading projects. Specific responsibilities will be documented and retained internally by the Department of Pharmacy.
