About The Position

The Pharmacy Operations Manager at Cedars-Sinai Medical in Los Angeles, California will oversee the central pharmacy operations and other department-level programs and functions. The central pharmacy is the hub for all distribution services for the medical center for areas such as acute care patient care units, diagnostic/peri-procedural areas, various clinics, and the ambulatory infusion center. The manager ensures the pharmacy is compliant with state board requirements and other regulatory agencies. This role oversees and maintains safe medication dispensing and non-sterile compounding. The manager collaborates with external departments to address medication needs and implements inventory/control principles, storage, and medication use workflows supporting various program needs. This position has 35 direct reports. The manager also serves in the rotation as Administrator On Duty (AOD) for the Pharmacy Department and is instrumental in disaster and emergency preparedness planning for the department.

Requirements

  • Subject matter expert for non-sterile compounding and prepackaging regulations and compliance.
  • Subject matter expert for medication storage regulations and compliance.
  • Expertise and knowledge of automation and technology in the Central Pharmacy.
  • Experience overseeing and participating in disaster preparedness and departmental response.
  • Experience overseeing the technician-check-technician process.
  • Experience in hiring, training, corrective action, mentoring, and performance management of pharmacy staff.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, residents, interns, and students.
  • Knowledge of medical center policies, procedures, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to assess and resolve operational issues and problems.
  • Ability to perform the duties of a pharmacist to support patient care needs.
  • Experience in departmental performance improvement activities and assessing operational and clinical effectiveness through quality improvement indicators.
  • Experience collaborating with physicians, nursing, and professional department leadership on process improvement opportunities.
  • Experience participating in medical center-wide initiatives on effective and efficient care delivery.
  • Ability to function as a positive, creative, and effective leader.
  • Experience serving as Pharmacy Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) on a rotating basis.
  • Experience serving as a liaison to patient care units and Nurse Administrator of the Day (AOD).
  • Ability to identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve procedures, practices, and workflows.

Responsibilities
