About The Position

The Pharmacy Manager provides empathetic pharmacy consulting to patients on medication use and drug interactions, and offers preventive and clinical healthcare services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. The role ensures medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately in accordance with regulations and company policies. The manager oversees pharmacy workflow, financial performance, inventory, patient experience, staff performance, and employee development through training, coaching, and formal performance management. The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for patient service and pharmacy operations, including counseling patients, dispensing medications, managing insurance claims, maintaining regulatory compliance and records, and coordinating pharmacy systems and facilities. The role also works with the Store Manager on staffing, business planning, performance improvement, and community relationships, while maintaining required credentials and developing professional knowledge.

Requirements

BS in Pharmacy or PharmD degree from an accredited educational institution.
Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
At least 1 year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, recordkeeping, legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems, and insurance billing; state-specific experience requirements may take precedence.
Experience performing prescription dispensing activities that demonstrate a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws.
For internal candidates: an average rating of at least 3.0 on leadership behaviors on the last performance review, if one is on file, and no written disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.
Maintain required licensing, credentialing, and certification as established by federal and state regulations to provide clinical services.
Complete required education credits, training, and Company learning modules.

Responsibilities

Engage patients, resolve issues, answer questions, and model customer-service practices that support a positive patient experience.
Promote Walgreens healthcare services, including consultations, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services.
Participate in community events as requested by the Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager.
Counsel patients on medication use, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, lower-cost medicines, and over-the-counter products; refer patients to medical providers when appropriate.
Perform pharmacist duties including compounding, drug therapy reviews, medication verification, medication management, and accurate dispensing of prescriptions.
Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with applicable regulations, company policies, and standards.
Establish efficient pharmacy workflows, oversee scheduling and role assignments, coordinate activities, solicit staff suggestions, and manage pharmacy opening, closing, and shift changes.
Apply Good Faith Dispensing policy requirements alongside state and federal controlled substance laws.
Collaborate with the Store Manager to define and develop strategic business opportunities.
Maintain knowledge of pharmacy information systems and support staff and patients with workflow, fulfillment, billing, documentation, training, inventory, and point-of-sale systems; identify productivity improvements.
Ensure insurance claims are processed accurately, resolve payment rejections and patient issues, and participate in third-party audits.
Follow up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies, suggest alternatives, and answer provider questions.
Perform clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease-state management.
Partner with centralized support on patient registration and exception resolution; conduct virtual product reviews in virtual environments according to company procedures.
Manage pharmacy maintenance, housekeeping, repairs, equipment, and layout changes.
Prepare and submit records, reports, and other documentation required by state and federal laws.
Collaborate with the Store Manager on pharmacy hiring, discipline, and termination, as necessary, while ensuring compliance with employment laws.
Establish team expectations and goals with the Store Manager, promote teamwork, recognize improvements, oversee staff training, and conduct formal performance reviews.
Identify high-potential team members and collaborate with the Store Manager on career progression.
Address employee relations concerns, complaints, conflicts, and team morale.
Maintain required licensing, credentialing, and certification for clinical services.
Maintain and enhance pharmacy and healthcare knowledge, complete required education and training, and pursue professional development and feedback.
Communicate relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff in support of the Store Manager.
Analyze pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance; manage asset protection and inventory, and identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Develop relationships with local healthcare providers and promote pharmacy services and growth opportunities in the community.
Support the Store Manager in expanding community awareness of health and wellness.
