The Pharmacy Manager of Medication Utilization Strategy is responsible for leading a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who oversee medication utilization across the UVA Health system. This role provides operational and clinical leadership to ensure the safe, effective, and cost-conscious use of medications through formulary management, evidence-based decision-making, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The manager plays a key role in supporting and operationalizing the UVA Health enterprise Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee. This includes oversight of formulary processes, coordination of P&T subcommittees, and ensuring efficient communication and execution of decisions across the health system. The position is accountable for maintaining a high-quality, evidence-based formulary while advancing medication stewardship initiatives that promote optimal clinical and financial outcomes. This role directly supervises team members responsible for P&T committee operations, including subcommittee coordination and documentation management. The manager will develop and implement standardized processes, tools, and onboarding strategies to enhance consistency, transparency, and efficiency in medication use governance across the enterprise. The Pharmacy Manager will also lead system-level initiatives such as the Drug Shortage Task Force and contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of clinical documents, including policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols routed through P&T governance structures. In partnership with Pharmacy Informatics and clinical leaders, this role will provide clinical oversight for EHR-related medication builds and ensure alignment between formulary decisions and system workflows. This position requires strong engagement with multidisciplinary stakeholders, including physicians, nursing, pharmacy, and administrative leadership. The role is highly visible across the organization and requires the ability to influence decision-making, align diverse perspectives, and drive system-wide adoption of medication use strategies. In addition to the job requirements outlined below, the ideal candidate is a clinically strong pharmacist with advanced training and/or experience in medication-use systems, formulary management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. A PGY2 training or equivalent advanced clinical experience preferred. Candidates should demonstrate prior leadership or project management experience, along with the ability to influence across teams, navigate complex systems, and translate strategy into operational execution. Represents people leaders (hire/fire authority) with majority of time spent overseeing their area of responsibility. Achieve goals through direct and/or indirect reports. Manages/Supervises professional level employees within a Job Area. Focuses on tactical and operational plans and strategy with short to mid-term focus. Develops solutions to moderately complex problems, and may escalate more complex issues to higher level management. Ensures that staff is utilized efficiently and daily work projects are completed on time and within budget.
