About The Position

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy professional to lead Hematology/Oncology pharmacy operations, manage and develop a pharmacy team, support patient safety and quality initiatives, and collaborate closely with clinical and hospital leadership. The Pharmacy Manager – Hematology/Oncology provides strategic and operational leadership for oncology pharmacy services while ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This role oversees pharmacy operations and staff, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, manages medication utilization and resources, and partners with interdisciplinary clinical and hospital leaders to improve patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. The ideal candidate will bring strong pharmacy leadership, operational expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor’s degree or PharmD) from an accredited pharmacy program.
  • PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Specialty or HSPAL Residency; or
  • PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and at least 2 years of pertinent pharmacy experience; or
  • At least 4 years of pertinent pharmacy experience.
  • Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the hire date.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication management processes, pharmacy systems, equipment, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to evaluate pharmacy services and processes using data and implement meaningful improvements.
  • Experience with pharmacy information systems, clinical databases, and healthcare technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of motivating, developing, and holding team members accountable.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, self-management, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Hematology/Oncology pharmacy.
  • Advanced degree such as a Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency.
  • Previous pharmacy leadership or management experience.
  • Experience leading clinical, operational, quality improvement, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with oncology pharmacy programs, specialty medications, or high-cost drug management.
  • Experience with pharmacy or clinical information systems such as QS1, Centricity, Meditech, Cerner, Epic, SCM, or similar platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily Hematology/Oncology pharmacy operations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and SOPs that promote safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmacy services.
  • Oversee medication procurement, preparation, storage, dispensing, and distribution to ensure accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage utilization of high-cost medications, including specialty Hematology/Oncology therapies.
  • Lead and support pharmacy projects from planning and implementation through stakeholder engagement, evaluation, and presentation of results to senior leadership.
  • Provide on-call support as required for urgent operational or clinical needs.
  • Support regulatory inspections, accreditation surveys, audits, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Proactively identify operational challenges and opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Lead, supervise, and support pharmacists, pharmacy liaisons, technicians, and other pharmacy personnel.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, performance evaluations, professional development, and corrective actions.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and engaged work environment built on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, recognition, and career development to direct reports.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and establish clear performance expectations.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the Hematology/Oncology pharmacy team and interdisciplinary hospital leadership.
  • Promote professional development and remain current with advancements in pharmacy practice and healthcare.
  • Participate in departmental budget development, financial planning, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor medication expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved resource utilization.
  • Support financial forecasting, analysis, and evaluation of the value and cost-effectiveness of pharmacy services.
  • Monitor staffing productivity and operational performance metrics.
  • Develop and adjust staffing schedules based on workload, productivity, patient-care needs, and departmental priorities.
  • Support effective workforce planning and utilization of full-time, part-time, and per-diem staff.
  • Collaborate with Hematology/Oncology physicians, nurses, and other clinical professionals to develop and implement programs that improve patient care and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Develop and coordinate education and training programs for pharmacy staff, oncology pharmacy residents, and students.
  • Mentor pharmacy personnel and support the development of clinical and operational competencies.
  • Promote continuous learning, professional development, and evidence-based pharmacy practice.
  • Lead quality improvement and medication-safety initiatives focused on pharmacy efficiency, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.
  • Evaluate pharmacy services, workflows, and processes using data and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with medication safety leadership to review and address safety reports, medication-related concerns, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support departmental and organizational goals through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
