About The Position

This role involves essential core responsibilities such as restocking floor stock and automated dispensing machines, entering charges and credits, monitoring medication order reports, and delivering medications in compliance with all regulations. The position also requires repackaging bulk supplies of medications and preparing and delivering IV medications according to USP standards, including maintaining records and cleanliness in sterile areas. Additionally, the role involves checking for expired medications and ensuring proper disposal of expired/damaged medications. The Lead Tech will oversee medication storage, drug procurement, receiving, and inventory management for automated dispensing systems, as well as diversion prevention monitoring. A key responsibility is training new staff in various pharmacy operations, including automated dispensing cabinets, medication monitoring, restocking, expiration date checking, extemporaneous non-sterile compounding, repackaging, and sterile products preparation. The role also includes onboarding new staff, assisting in the development of training materials, and contributing to the development and implementation of operational standards. The Lead Tech will interface with other hospital departments, conceptualize and implement operational initiatives, gather data for reports, participate in billing and accounts payable activities, manage pharmacy space and supplies, analyze medication misadventures, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years hospital pharmacy experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Registered Technician with State
  • CPhT
  • Sterile compounding experience
  • Ability to teach complex pharmaceutical calculations
  • Expertise in Epic
  • Proficiency with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access

Responsibilities

  • Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing machines.
  • Enters charges/credits against patient profile to ensure an accurate bill.
  • Monitors medication order reports to assign medication to an automated dispensing machine.
  • Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP <795> & USP<800> standards.
  • Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP <797> & USP <800> standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes QA.
  • Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations.
  • Oversees in the inspection of medication storage areas to ensure compliance with regulations and standards and takes actions to correct deficiencies.
  • Oversees drug procurement and receiving and takes actions to improve inventory management.
  • Oversees automated dispensing systems inventory management.
  • Oversees diversion prevention monitoring and takes action to improve outcomes.
  • Responsible for training new staff in Central Pharmacy Operations.
  • Responsible for training new staff in extemporaneous non-sterile compounding and repackaging of medications in accordance to all USP guidelines.
  • Responsible for training new staff in all Sterile Products areas.
  • Responsible for onboarding new staff.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of training objectives and manuals in all areas of the pharmacy.
  • Assist with development and implementation of operational standards.
  • Interface with other Hospital departments to implement initiatives.
  • Conceptualize, implement, and monitor operational department initiatives in accordance with direction from Director of Pharmacy in a timely manner.
  • Gather data and prepare reports to meet the needs of the department.
  • Participate in activities related to billing and accounts payable.
  • Participate in managing pharmacy physical space and supplies.
  • Participate in analysis of medication misadventures and implementation of quality improvement.
  • Participate in managing pharmacy informatics.
