About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern performs department functions as assigned and in accordance with established procedures. Based on ability, experience, and performance, the intern may perform increasingly judgmental activities of a pharmacist, subject to State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations. Under supervision, the intern gains practical experience necessary to function competently and effectively upon licensure.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Actively pursuing licensure as a Registered Pharmacist through completion of academic and/or post-graduate experience requirements.
• Active enrollment in a College of Pharmacy, or, for international pharmacy graduates, satisfactory completion of the FPGEE and the TSE or TOEFL-ibt through the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
• Active intern license prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Obtain, prepare, and label pharmacy products according to department policy for final distribution.
• Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, review and interpret orders for pharmacy products needed for patient care, perform necessary interventions, and process orders according to department policy and procedure.
• Produce billing, monitoring, and usage documentation of pharmacy products for billing and inventory purposes.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of pharmacy products to enable efficient distribution.
• Provide information by phone or in person to other healthcare professionals and/or customers.
• Submit medication charge data to support proper reimbursement.
• May assist in training technicians, externs, and interns in the technical aspects of their duties.
• Participate in special projects when necessary.
• Focus on safety, quality, and efficiency while performing job duties.
