Pharmacist - Weekend/Per Diem
About The Position
Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North is a 45-bed long-term acute care hospital providing extended recovery care. The Pharmacist works in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy to compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies, interpret medication orders, and practice in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. The role supports hospital administration, medical staff, clinical staff, patients, and other departments on medication, quality, regulatory, and risk matters. The Pharmacist also assists the Director in coordinating and implementing Pharmacy activities, supervises technical support staff, and contributes to clinical, quality-management, and education programs. The position supports adult and geriatric patients. The Pharmacist maintains drug information and provides education and consultation; reviews patient profiles and medication orders for safe and appropriate therapy; oversees preparation and checking of medications, including IV products; and directs and supports Pharmacy personnel. The role also maintains Pharmacy and controlled-substance security, completes required reports and procedures, and keeps the Director informed of workload status. Pay is $65 per hour.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharmacist degree.
- Current state pharmacist license in good standing.
- BCLS certification.
- At least three months of experience in pharmacy.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, HCFA, and state guidelines.
- Basic understanding of computer use for processing prescription orders and minimum word-processing skills.
- Self-motivated and self-directed, with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to organize meetings and inspections.
- Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Must have good and regular attendance.

Responsibilities
- Compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies, and interpret medication orders in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
- Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy and assist in coordinating and implementing Pharmacy activities.
- Participate in hospital Performance Improvement plans and advise Administration, Medical Staff, and hospital staff on quality, regulatory, and risk issues.
- Serve as a consultant to clinical and Medical Staff and provide medication-related support to hospital departments.
- Maintain and disseminate drug information through in-service education and consultation with patients and staff.
- Direct Pharmacy personnel and provide professional and technical guidance; assist Pharmacists and Technicians with routine duties and technical tasks.
- Review patient profiles and orders to ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy, including checking for duplication, interactions, allergies, and patient-specific dosing considerations.
- Prepare and check medications and IV products, maintain aseptic technique, and ensure technician-prepared products are checked before release.
- Prioritize STAT, Now, Waiting, and fill-on-arrival orders; maintain productivity and keep the Director informed about workload status.
- Provide pharmacokinetics dosing services, interpret levels, modify doses, and document progress notes according to protocol.
- Calculate fluid, electrolyte, and calorie needs; assess formulation appropriateness and clarify controversial orders with physicians.
- Maintain required reports, backup procedures, logs, accurate labeling and packaging, and Pharmacy and controlled-substance security.
- Keep current on new drugs and support clinical, quality-management, and education programs.
- Support the care of adult and geriatric patients.
