About The Position

CVS Health is hiring a full-time Staff Pharmacist for a retail pharmacy. The Staff Pharmacist helps deliver safe, compassionate patient care and supports the Pharmacy Manager in leading and directing the pharmacy team. The role includes oversight and operation of pharmacy activities, serving as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during non-overlapping bench shifts, and assuming day-to-day manager duties when the pharmacist is the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The position also supports prescription fulfillment, immunization services, inventory management, regulatory compliance, team coaching, and pharmacist-delivered clinical care where permissible. The role requires regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends, and flexibility to meet scheduling and business needs.

Requirements

Hold an active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
Hold an active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Not be on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Be able to concentrate on tasks over time and quickly pivot between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
Be able to confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
Demonstrate a friendly, helpful approach to customer service and respond appropriately to patients’ reactions.
Use verbal and written communication effectively with patients and colleagues, including active listening.
Use mathematical reasoning for prescription calculations, including quantities, days’ supply, and bottle counts.
Identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and choose an appropriate course of action.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
Ability to work in other locations across the market as business needs require.

Responsibilities

Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
Strengthen pharmacy performance measures through effective coaching and consistent follow-up with pharmacy team members, and provide performance feedback to the Pharmacy Manager as needed.
Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and safety guardrails, and directing the pharmacy team to do the same.
Promote positive patient experiences through empathy and genuine care, collaboration with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
Offer and deliver immunizations, and engage and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
Manage pharmacy inventory according to best practices, with particular attention to protecting cold-chain products.
Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to maintain compliance with applicable state Board of Pharmacy regulations and escalate issues or concerns as needed.
Remain flexible to scheduling and business needs, contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic, and write the pharmacy schedule if directed.
Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills through required training, continuing medical education, and ongoing learning.
Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical services, such as testing and prescribing where permissible, and encourage holistic care from the pharmacy team.
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements for patient safety, controlled substances, recordkeeping, privacy, security, and workplace safety.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends, and complete required training within the designated timeframe.
Perform additional tasks as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
