About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to work with an in-house specialty team and supervise the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy to provide direct patient care. Responsibilities include conducting virtual and/or in-person consultations and trainings for patients starting on biologic and other specialty medications, providing medication counselling and disease management education, and evaluating physician medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and completeness. The pharmacist will also check and verify prescriptions, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, ensure compliance with standards of practice and regulations, maintain legally required records, assist in training new employees, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree (BSc) in Pharmacy or a PharmD, from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed with Ontario College of Pharmacists to provide direct patient care (Part A) and in good standing.
  • Current CPR certification if involved with direct patient contact.
  • Injection training certified.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Kroll is an asset.
  • Experience with sterile and/or non-sterile compounding.
  • Experience working in a specialty pharmacy environment (e.g., biologics, complex therapies, prior authorizations).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy to provide direct patient care.
  • Conduct virtual and/or in-person consultations and trainings for patients starting on biologic and other specialty medications.
  • Provide medication counselling and disease management education, answering clinical questions and therapeutic concerns.
  • Obtain, interpret, and evaluate physician medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Check and verify prescriptions for clinical, technical, financial, and compounding accuracy.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to address patient-related questions or concerns.
  • Ensure pharmacy meets and maintains standards of practice, operating procedures, policies, laws, and regulations set by the Ontario College of Pharmacist and NKS.
  • Accurately maintain all legally required records.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by management.
