About The Position

The medSask pharmacist is responsible for responding to drug information requests from healthcare providers and consumers. This position collaborates with health organizations and partners on drug-therapy projects. Additionally, the pharmacist contributes to undergraduate education within the college and delivers continuing education for healthcare professionals. This role works as part of a team dedicated to providing healthcare professionals and the public with access to accurate, evidence-based drug information to support positive health outcomes for Saskatchewan residents.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed to practice pharmacy in Saskatchewan.
  • Minimum of three years of pharmacy practice experience.
  • Broad knowledge of therapeutics.
  • Strong understanding of current pharmacy practice, especially as it relates to the expanded scope of practice.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a diverse environment.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the city, province, and nationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in student instruction is preferred.
  • Experience in drug information and critical appraisal is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and responds to questions on drugs and drug therapies from healthcare providers and consumers.
  • Research using medical literature and other resources to synthesize relevant evidence-based information.
  • Reviews peer responses to drug information questions for quality assurance purposes.
  • Contributes to the development and review of guidelines within the area of practice.
  • Delivers lectures and tutorials to students in the college’s academic programs.
  • Supports students in developing professional, research, and clinical skills which may include practicums, workshops, feedback, and support with other college programs.
  • Research, writes, and reviews technical content such as articles, webpages, and medication handouts.
  • Assists with drug information education and research contracts with various healthcare organizations.
  • Delivers presentations on various pharmacy-related topics to pharmacists, other health care professionals, and the public.
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
