About The Position

The Pharmacist interprets, evaluates, and dispenses pharmaceuticals to nursing units, including checking therapy for appropriateness. The role manages pharmacy inventory and maintains accurate medication inventory controls and records. It follows applicable FDA, Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and federal laws and regulations, and ensures that records and reports required by law and facility policies remain current and accurate. The Pharmacist provides pharmacy and pharmaceutical-care information to facility physicians and staff, ensures pharmacy department adherence to facility policies, and may help write pharmacy policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. The position may also be required to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Requirements

• Ability to interpret, evaluate, and dispense pharmaceuticals.
• Ability to keep reports, policy and procedure controls, and pharmacy inventory up to date.
• Ability to ensure compliance with records and reporting requirements under federal and state law and facility policies.
• Must be able to transport residents between floors or outside the facility using elevators and/or stairs.

• Follow pharmacy-related laws and regulations established by the FDA, Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and federal law.
• Keep records and reports required by federal and state law and facility policies current and accurate.
• Provide facility physicians and other staff with information about pharmacy and pharmaceutical care.
• Ensure that the pharmacy department adheres to facility policies.
• May assist in writing pharmacy department policies or procedures.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
• May assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
