About The Position

The Pharmacist Intern works with pharmacists and technicians to support patient care and customer service in the pharmacy. Under the pharmacist’s direct supervision, the intern assists with prescription drug orders, prescription filling, patient communications, immunizations as allowed by law, medication affordability, point-of-sale tasks, prescription clarifications, inventory management, compounding, and patient counseling. The role requires at least 10 working hours per week and two weekend shifts per month. The intern also participates in staff meetings, completes assigned training on time, complies with policies and procedures, and performs additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Work with pharmacists and technicians to ensure proper patient care and customer service.
Assist with prescription drug orders, including transfers, phoned-in prescriptions, and voicemails, under the pharmacist’s direct supervision.
Communicate clearly and concisely with patients, clinicians, and medical providers.
Assist with immunizations as allowed by law.
Help patients obtain medication and confirm their ability to afford medication before it is dispensed.
Perform the prescription-filling process.
Assist with point-of-sale tasks.
Assist with prescription order clarifications and communication with physicians and provider offices.
Work at least 10 hours per week and complete two weekend shifts per month.
Assist with quarterly and/or annual inventory counts, at least once per year.
Participate in pharmacy staff meetings.
Complete assigned training within established timeframes.
Assist with inventory management, including controlled drugs as required by law.
Work cooperatively with other staff.
Assist with pharmacy compounding as required by law and company policy.
Provide patient information and counseling.
Comply with all policies and procedures.
Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
