About The Position

The Pharmacist In-Charge (PIC) will ensure the pharmacy establishes and executes processes and procedures to maintain all state board and regulatory compliance for that location. The PIC will also provide dotted line leadership for the pharmacist team, working in strong collaboration with the Center of Excellence Managers, to establish, adhere to and adjust schedules and rotations to meet ratio requirements, maximize pharmacist performance, workflow and execution against key performance indicators for operations. This position will be expected to perform hands-on staff pharmacist work including Rx, Order and Filled Rx verification to ensure the pharmacy runs efficiently and smoothly. The PIC will participate in the development and adherence with site level policies and labor relations. To be successful, they must also be familiar with implementing the proper Key Performance Metrics (KPI) for a high volume pharmacy fulfillment/patient care setting. They must be an effective communicator as they will serve as the subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD), required
  • Must hold a current Pharmacist license in the State of California or be able to earn a California license
  • Willingness and ability to obtain multiple state pharmacist licenses where the PIC is required to be licensed, working with Compliance to achieve this goal within the first 12-18 months.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining board and regulatory compliance for prescription pharmacy operations
  • At least five years having led pharmacists, as well as extended teams, to successful and consistent accomplishment of key performance measures
  • Strong track record of performance, team building, operations management, quality improvement.
  • Oversee the training and onboarding of new pharmacists to ensure they understand compliance requirements, workflow processes, and key performance expectations.
  • Develop and implement ongoing training programs to keep the pharmacist team updated on best practices, regulatory changes, and new pharmaceutical technologies.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide mentorship, and foster professional growth among pharmacy staff to enhance skills and maintain a high standard of care.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide targeted training solutions that improve efficiency and service quality.
  • Ensure pharmacists are engaged in continuous learning opportunities, including workshops, certifications, and professional development courses to maintain industry expertise.
  • Minimum 3 years of managerial experience leading pharmacists and/or technicians in a clinical operation, pharmacy operations, or contact center environment
  • Must be registered or eligible to become registered with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally through written, verbal (e.g., face-to-face, telephonically and/or virtual communication platforms), and interpersonal skills as applied when interacting with employees, patients, healthcare professionals, clients, or agency representatives; successfully conveying and exchanging information at an appropriate level and in a positive and timely manner.
  • Strong technical and computer skills to navigate proprietary and other pharmacy software and the initiative to propose suggestions to improve operations and proprietary system development and enhancements.
  • Demonstrated experience with problem-solving, conflict resolution, and project management skills.
  • Detail oriented and organized with the ability to work with a sense of urgency, work under pressure, multi-task, and achieve deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong data entry capability.
  • Strong analytical skills with good clinical judgement and decision making including (1) the ability to effectively and efficiently identify and rectify medication-related problems, and (2) assess patients using verbal and/or visual cues, when appropriate.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, including HIPAA and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain board of pharmacy compliance in a flexible and collaborative manner that optimizes compliance, delivery timeliness and cost to fill
  • Pharmacist scheduling to maintain ratio per the tech needs and hours as outlined by pharmacy manager
  • Develop & manage rotation of staffing to cover canister checks per needs as outlined by pharmacy manager
  • Develop & manage rotation to cover PV3 per needs as outlined by pharmacy manager
  • Solicit and scheduling of PRN shifts to maintain ratio during required weekend production
  • Develop & manage rotation to put pharmacists in position to succeed in hitting their individual point goals
  • Negotiate with COE leaders on RPh assignments, hours to maximize ability for pharmacists to hit their goals and cover the canister checks and PV3
  • Perform QRE investigations, ensure management review is completed and corrective actions implemented
  • Be on site to observe and report concerns about pharmacist behavior or performance to COE managers
  • Support canister checks, InspectRx images, PV3 images, PV3, PV1 to help achieve pharmacist team requirements and keep production flowing
  • Successfully balance administrative tasks, complete administrative and project tasks in a timely manner
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality consistent with HIPAA and professional standards
  • Other leadership duties as assigned
