About The Position

The Pharmacist-in-Charge is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered pharmaceutical care with a focus on medication therapy management, adherence support, and education. This role supports our commitment to LGBTQ+-affirming healthcare by ensuring patients feel respected, informed, and empowered in managing their medications. The Pharmacist-in-Charge collaborates closely with providers, medical staff, and care coordinators to ensure safe, effective, and culturally competent medication practices.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy with equivalent experience required.
  • Active Arizona Pharmacist License in good standing.
  • Previous experience in clinical, outpatient, or specialty pharmacy strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HIV care, PrEP/PEP, hormone therapy, or LGBTQ+-affirming healthcare is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, counseling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Strong commitment to providing inclusive, culturally sensitive care.
  • Must be able to obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card during background check process. (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medication management for chronic and infectious diseases.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management systems.
  • Understanding of insurance processes, prior authorizations, and patient assistance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care including medication dispensing, counseling, and patient education.
  • Review prescriptions for accuracy, interactions, contraindications, and appropriate dosing.
  • Support medication therapy management (MTM) programs and monitor patient adherence, especially for chronic conditions such as HIV, PrEP/PEP, hormone therapy, and behavioral health medications.
  • Collaborate with providers to optimize treatment plans and resolve medication-related issues.
  • Offer clinical guidance on medication protocols, formularies, and best practices.
  • Manages pharmacy staff performance by overseeing the training of pharmacy staff (e.g., using the correct processes and tools) and conducting formal performance reviews
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with Arizona Board of Pharmacy requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Provide culturally competent, affirming care to LGBTQ+ patients and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Identify pharmacy performance trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist in managing inventory, ordering, and controlled substance logs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and staff training as needed.
  • Support patients in navigating insurance coverage, prior authorizations, and medication assistance programs.
