The mission of Newborn Bloodspot Screening is to provide timely reporting of critical screening results to healthcare providers and specialists across the state, as well as case management for timely follow-up and assistance through the diagnostic odyssey for infants identified through newborn bloodspot screening. The Short-Term Follow-Up Newborn Screening Nurse Supervisor position is mission-critical as it provides additional leadership within the program to maintain efficiency of result reporting and case management workflows. This position will provide direct supervision to the five Short-Term Follow-Up nurses, including supervision of weekly caseload reports, performance evaluations, and direct management of leave requests and scheduling needs. Newborn Screening Public Health nurses serve as subject-matter experts for the Virginia Newborn Screening Program (VNSP), a statewide, mandated program. These positions assist in the development of VNSP goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; contribute to reports on program performance; serve as contacts for staff and external inquirers about VNSP; monitor VNSP delivery for compliance with applicable policies and procedures; and promote VNSP to improve performance and enhance public awareness. The Short-Term Follow-Up Newborn Screening Nurse Supervisor position requires clinical knowledge and judgement to ensure that all VNSP-required Newborn Bloodspot Screening (NBS) tests are performed and that any necessary follow-up care is provided, including on-call weekend and holiday coverage for critical reports. This position requires rotating on-call coverage for weekends and holidays.
