About The Position

Health System Pharmacy at Cardinal Health is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective coordination of pharmacy operations serving acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices, and retail customers. This division provides customized pharmacy program solutions to reduce costs and improve patient care quality for healthcare providers. The PGY1 Pharmacy Resident, under the guidance of the Residency Program Director/System Pharmacy Clinical Director and credentialed preceptors, will engage in a structured 12-month postgraduate training program accredited by ASHP. This role involves assisting in pharmaceutical care through various professional functions, all designed to foster development within the field.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Valid Mississippi pharmacy intern license prior to starting.
  • Valid pharmacist license in Mississippi, or eligibility to obtain within 90 days of start date.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding pharmacy practice and protected health information.
  • Understanding of institutional policies/procedures, including standard precautions and infection control and prevention.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to work in collaborative environments.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle concomitant responsibilities and set priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to continually improve performance through self-reflection, self-evaluation, and incorporation of feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in required, elective, and longitudinal learning experiences under guidance from credentialed pharmacist preceptors, meeting all associated goals and objectives.
  • Deliver direct patient care and medication management services across various settings including acute care, long-term care, general medicine, and psychiatry/mental health, serving adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations.
  • Evaluate and monitor medication therapy for clinical appropriateness and safety, including indication, dosing, duration, interactions, adverse effects, duplication, alternatives, and compliance.
  • Educate healthcare professionals and patients on pharmacotherapy to promote evidence-based, patient-centered, cost-effective, and safe medication use.
  • Collaborate effectively with various healthcare disciplines and staff.
  • Participate in medication safety, drug policy, and performance improvement activities.
  • Engage in scholarly activities to advance pharmacy practice.
  • Monitor and evaluate personal performance and engage in self-improvement.
  • Perform routine duties of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership and preceptors.
  • Provide staffing every other weekend.
  • May require vendor credentialing.
