About The Position

Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Residency Program Director (RPD), the PGY1 Pharmacy Resident is responsible for active learning and participation in assigned duties of the Post Graduate Year 1 Pharmacy Residency Program. This role involves managing and improving the medication use process, providing evidence-based, patient-centered Medication Therapy Management with multidisciplinary teams, and exercising leadership and practice management skills. The resident will also demonstrate project management skills, provide medication and practice-related education/training, and utilize medical informatics. Additionally, the resident will provide distributive and clinical pharmacy functions when serving as a Clinical Staff Pharmacist, develop supervisory and leadership skills, recruit new residents, and promote the program. Precepting and evaluating Pharmacy Interns, Students, or Technician Students is also a key responsibility. The resident should exhibit a desire and aptitude for teaching clinical problem-solving through instructing, modeling, coaching, and facilitating. They must remain actively engaged in clinical practice, demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, and embody the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

Requirements

  • KY licensed pharmacist (or eligible for KY Licensure within 60 days from Residency year).
  • Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with sufficient educational training to practice in a hospital Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and improve the Medication use process.
  • Provide evidence based, patient centered Medication Therapy Management with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Utilize medical informatics.
  • Provides distributive and Clinical Pharmacy functions when providing service component as a Clinical Staff Pharmacist.
  • Develops supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Recruits new Residents and promotes program at regional, state and national venues.
  • Precepts and evaluates Pharmacy Interns, Students or Technician Students in their respective roles.
  • Provides desire and aptitude for teaching clinical problem solving via 4 roles -instructing, modeling, coaching, facilitating.
  • Remains actively engaged in clinical practice and demonstrates commitment to life long learning.
  • Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
  • Complete assignments designed to enhance learning experience and meet required PGY1 educational outcomes.
  • Participate in evaluation of their performance, the performance of their Preceptors as well as the overall Residency Program.
  • Participate in the Pharmacy department’s ongoing process for tracking and trending medication events (adverse drug events, medication occurrences and sentinel events).
  • Participate in assigned committee, teams or projects to promote their learning experience.
  • Participate in policy or protocol development.
  • Be an active member in local, state or national professional organizations.
  • Participate in preparation of the Pharmacy Department and the Organization for regulatory surveys.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills.
  • Be actively engaged in clinical practice at the institution (EMRMC).
  • Performs assigned clinical, distributive and supervisory or administrative functions as assigned during the Residency year.
  • Adheres to best practice and EMH policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency for assigned learning experiences.
  • Participate in Resident recruitment, interviews and application process.
  • Demonstrate a desire and aptitude for teaching that includes mastery of the four (4) Preceptor roles fulfilled when teaching clinical problem solving (instructing, modeling, coaching, and facilitating).
  • Demonstrate abilities to provide criteria-based feedback and evaluation of their own performance and that of those they are teaching.
  • Continue to pursue and develop their teaching skills.
  • Complete and present project (poster, publication or other professional presentation venue).
  • Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance.
  • Contributes to the achievement of the mission and philosophy of the Organization.
  • Provides continuing education programs to Associates and clinicians via local, state or national presentations.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the core concepts of patient family centered care into practice (dignity, respect, information sharing, and participation).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the development and implementation of shared governance across the Organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
