About The Position

Maui Humane Society is an open-admissions animal shelter serving cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, and other animals. It provides veterinary and routine care, helps surrendered animals find homes, and offers humane law enforcement, education and outreach, pet-retention programs, and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries.

The Pet Resource Specialist is the primary contact for walk-ins, supports shelter inquiries, and provides a range of services to the community. The role calls for nonjudgmental customer service and leading difficult conversations with highly emotional people. The work is performed with a team and training.

Requirements

• Strong customer-service communication skills, both externally and internally.
• High comfort level interacting with animals.
• Ability to use multiple computer programs efficiently.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in animal welfare.
• Experience with shelter software; PetPoint is preferred.
• Animal-handling experience, especially in a professional setting such as boarding, grooming, or veterinary care.
• Medical office experience.
• Social services experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide a positive community experience in all transactions.
• Process data and payments in shelter software.
• Intake animals being surrendered, including animals surrendered for euthanasia.
• Document animal behavior and transport animals throughout the shelter.
• Schedule and intake a high volume of surgeries.
• Prepare animals for cremation.
