About The Position

The Corporation of the City of Thunder Bay has a rewarding opportunity for a Personal Support Worker. As a Personal Support Worker, this role participates as a member of a multidisciplinary care team in the provision of care for the residents at Pioneer Ridge, a facility providing 150 Long Term Care beds. Residents are treated equally in a setting of compassion and care, through quality nursing care, life enrichment programs, balanced nutrition, and social and spiritual opportunities. The City of Thunder Bay is the largest community on Lake Superior, known for its cultural diversity, high quality of life, and as a hub for commerce, administration, and medical services. Requirements

  • Successful completion of a recognized personal support worker or developmental services worker program; or Enrolled at a college or university in the registered practical nursing or registered nursing program.
  • A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly is necessary.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary care team in the provision of care for the residents.
  • Provides basic nursing care based on each resident’s developed care plan and within the framework of an established nursing program.
  • Encourages and supports resident participation in activities of daily living.
  • Provides input into the development and maintenance of resident care plans and participates in resident care conferences.
  • Reports changes in residents’ physical and mental condition to the Registered Nurse and documents as per policy.
  • Participates in maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff, demonstrating an appropriate response to emergencies and safety procedures.
