About The Position

Grandview Kids provides an array of specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. Programs and services – which are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home – include: medical consultation, assessment, and diagnosis; audiology, autism support; complex care program; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; respite services; social work; speech-language pathology; therapeutic recreation; and family engagement. Grandview Kids actively participates in research to support innovation in rehabilitation science, to advance organizational capabilities, and to better serve caregivers and the developmental needs of their children and adolescents. Requirements

  • Personal Support Worker Certification from an Accredited College
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR level C Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with children, youth and their families with physical and developmental disabilities, and experience supporting participation in group recreation programs
  • Possess a driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with activities of daily living, toileting, socialization, and other occupational functions
  • Assisting clients with positioning on equipment and assisting parents and therapists in transfers
  • Supporting the Recreation Therapists and Recreation Assistants to assist clients participating in recreation activities within the Therapeutic Recreation Services Department
  • Working within the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of clients in obtaining an optimal level of independence and well-being, ensuring the health, safety, welfare, and independence of clients
  • Assisting clients with leisure activities and physical literacy activities
  • Ensuring the fulfillment of individual goals and needs as instructed in the client’s support plans
  • Observing client activity and recording/reporting as required
  • Assisting in ensuring the safety of clients and the integrity of sites used for activities
  • Assisting in direct client care
  • Providing assistance with activities of daily living and delegated transfer of function tasks, as directed and in accordance with established plans of care
  • Providing leadership, direction and support to program clients and volunteers
  • Maintaining communication with all other staff members
  • Supporting departmental/Centre efforts in Quality Improvement Program (QIP) activities
  • Participating in education, orientation and public relations as required
  • Maintaining a safe work environment
  • Performing other duties as assigned
