About The Position

Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a PSW. Under the direction and supervision of the WFNHCC-RN and/or WFN-NP the Personal Support Worker provides community member/sponsored visitor focused personal care, within an interdisciplinary team consistent with the Vision and Mission of the Wasauksing First Nation Health Department and Organization. Delivers community focused care within full scope of practice of a PSW, in the home and/or clinic environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each client/family and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current certification or equivalent as per O. REG 79/10 of the Long-Term Care homes Act, 2007
  • Certificate-Food Safety Awareness Program recognized by a Public Health Unit
  • Therapeutic/Culturally Safe verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to meet and maintain health requirement as per leglislation
  • Creates and sustains, a community care environment that protects the confidentiality and privacy of clients; staff; community and activities of the Health Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Long Term Care/Community Health setting an asset

Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable in the utilization and care of all mechanical equipment required for client care.
  • Provide culturally sensitive health teaching to clients and family.
  • Be cognizant of the WFN Health’s Vision and Mission Statement and reflect these beliefs in practice.
  • Maintain own continuing education to enhance professional knowledge and growth.
  • Participates in all aspects of personal community care to ensure the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of each client/family member are met under the direction of the Registered Nurse and the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Utilizes therapeutic communication by establishing a working relationship with client/families and co-workers for the purpose of meeting the clients’ needs; ensuring respect, dignity, individuality of each client and staff member.
  • Participates with other team members in formulating, delivering and reporting the daily client care needs and personal preferences by: Attending and gathering pertinent data from report; Seeking direction from Registered Staff; Observing clients for any changes and reporting immediately to the Registered Staff; Assessing behaviours and activities of daily living and reporting in oral and/or written form at designated times, and Reporting unusual events promptly and directly to Registered Staff.
  • Delivers effective and efficient care under the direction of the Registered Staff that promotes client/family choice and acknowledges the clients’ strengths; limitations as well as their need for safety and the safety of other clients, family and staff.
  • Consistent with client focused care approach to meet resident needs and demonstrates initiative to: Assists with serving meals, feeding, providing nourishment supplements; Assists with transporting and transferring clients, as required and needed under registered staff supervision and assistance; Under the direction of Registered Staff applies external treatment creams to clients, as part of personal care.
  • Ensure daily, the neatness of clients rooms and areas.
  • Health Station meetings; general staff meetings and Care Conferences.
  • Participates in continuing education, relevant to LTC, to ensure skills and abilities are maintained and enhanced.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement of the Home and Community Care Program and associated care services by: Using supplies in a cost efficient manner as per product guidelines; Creates and sustains, a community care environment that protects the confidentiality and privacy of clients.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
