About The Position

The Personal Support Specialist encourages personal growth through goal-based support and provides daily living support to KIM clients in their homes and in the community. The role motivates and supports adults with developmental disabilities in working toward their goals in accordance with the Residential Service Guidelines. Full-time and part-time positions are available, with paid training.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Intermediate experience supporting independent living; experience with adults with developmental disabilities or other disabilities is preferred.
At least 18 years of age.
Criminal background check must be cleared before working alone unsupervised with clients.
Valid driver’s license or State ID.
Ability to follow instructions, organize, and set priorities.
Strong communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking, and reading comprehension.
Ability to engage in critical thinking.

Responsibilities

Help clients use emotional and behavioral regulation techniques outlined in their individual plans.
Help clients achieve personal and program goals and evaluate goal completion and denials.
Assist clients with money management, including petty cash, receipts, checkbooks, and EBTs.
Assist clients with daily hygiene and personal care as outlined in their individual care plans, including brushing teeth, bathing, hair washing, and toileting.
Administer the correct medications to clients and document the activity, including nurse-delegated tasks.
Transport clients to and from activities and appointments, and arrange transportation services as appropriate.
Complete daily, weekly, and monthly forms, reports, and data sheets.
Supervise clients’ daily activities and living conditions to ensure adequate health and safety.
Assist clients with cooking and eating meals and with grocery shopping.
