About The Position

This position is responsible for collecting semen and inseminating hens in chicken houses. It involves inspecting semen to determine quality and quantity for use, as well as inspecting hens for evidence of production. The role requires adherence to biosecurity and animal welfare guidelines, including showering and changing clothing before entering the facility. Team members must be willing to sign agreements to avoid avian species and abide by company guidelines. The job involves performing the physical requirements of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • No disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • A point level of less than or equal to 6 attendance points.
  • 6 months in current area unless promoting, then less than 6 months is allowable.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, safety glasses and company issued footwear are required.
  • Ear plugs will be used as needed.
  • NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Insemination of hens, which involves inverting hens' oviducts and placing semen into the oviduct. Team members are required to rotate between these tasks.
  • Inspecting hens for evidence of production during the insemination process.
  • Collecting semen free of contaminants from males, with assistance from management and leads as needed.
  • Visually inspecting semen and recording quality scores.
  • Weighing males and recording weights, and adjusting males' feed.
  • Assisting management, management support, and leads in evaluating semen quality using microscopes and densimeters.
  • Washing/disinfecting vehicles.
  • Setting up and cleaning AI equipment.
  • Sanitizing AI breakroom.
  • Trimming beaks/vents.
  • Properly euthanizing selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy.
