About The Position

This position is responsible for monitoring the hatchery and its equipment, preparing the hatchery for processors, and cleaning and sanitizing hatchery areas and equipment as specified. The role involves ensuring the proper operation of equipment, recording environmental readings, and assisting with egg placement and inventory. The job also includes fumigating specified areas, setting up the chick room, and performing other related duties as assigned. A key aspect of the role involves adhering to strict biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety requirements, including showering and changing clothes before entering the facility, and potentially signing agreements related to animal interaction and company guidelines. The position requires the ability to perform physical tasks with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Respirator certification is required and maintained by testing on an annual basis.
  • Must be willing to achieve and maintain a respirator certification.
  • TM’s must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours.
  • The jobsite is a bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
  • No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds to move items such as tray of eggs, etc.; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally move up to 500 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend;; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
  • Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company issued footwear are required.
  • Ear plugs will be used as required.
  • NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test.
  • Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
  • Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months, a point level

Responsibilities

  • Monitors building and surrounding grounds for unauthorized entry, vandalism, safety hazards (25%)
  • Inspects and monitors equipment (inside/outside) for proper operation (25%)
  • Manually records temperature and humidity readings. Monitors formaldehyde per schedule. (10%)
  • Places eggs in incubator. Pedigree egg check and inventory on Saturday. (10%)
  • Fumigates specified areas of the facility as required (10%)
  • Prepares Hatchery for processors by: chick room set up, placing wing bands on tables and mats on floors, set up of chick boxes and scales (10%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as; clean incinerators; perform janitorial ; monitor operation of generator during power failure; maintains foot pans and hand sanitizer; assist with egg sets as needed. (10%)
