About The Position

The Hatchery Monitor is responsible for monitoring the hatchery and its equipment, preparing the hatchery for processors, and cleaning and sanitizing hatchery areas and equipment as specified. This role involves ensuring the proper operation of equipment, maintaining environmental conditions, and assisting with various hatchery tasks. The position requires adherence to strict biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols, including showering and changing clothes before entering the facility. The job also involves working with various chemicals and wearing required personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • Must have a point level <= 6 attendance points.
  • Must have 6 months in current area unless promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable.
  • Respirator certification is required and maintained by testing on an annual basis.
  • Must be willing to achieve and maintain a respirator certification.
  • TM’s must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Must occasionally move up to 500 pounds with the assistance of tools like a wheeled buggy.
  • Must regularly stand majority of shift on a concrete floor.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects and controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend, talk or hear, and drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors building and surrounding grounds for unauthorized entry, vandalism, and safety hazards.
  • Inspects and monitors equipment (inside/outside) for proper operation.
  • Manually records temperature and humidity readings.
  • Monitors formaldehyde per schedule.
  • Places eggs in incubator.
  • Performs pedigree egg check and inventory on Saturday.
  • Fumigates specified areas of the facility as required.
  • Prepares Hatchery for processors by setting up the chick room, placing wing bands on tables, mats on floors, and setting up chick boxes and scales.
  • Cleans incinerators.
  • Performs janitorial duties.
  • Monitors operation of generator during power failure.
  • Maintains foot pans and hand sanitizer.
  • Assists with egg sets as needed.
