About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary point of contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is responsible for operating the store and making necessary decisions to support profitability, efficiency, and customer service. The PIC generally supervises store employees when in charge, often at night, and also performs Cashier-Checker duties. The role may require work in multiple store departments.

Requirements

• Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
• Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of all positions within the store.
• Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service according to employer procedures and company policy.
• Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately.
• Supervise store personnel when the Store Manager and Assistant Managers are absent.
• Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
• Supervise the sales floor, monitoring customer service and product replenishment.
• Replace stock in displays near the checkout area.
• Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
• Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
• Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total customer purchases.
• Accept payment and count back correct change.
• Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts.
• Offer carry-out assistance and perform carry-out duties if a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
• Complete end-of-day office functions when assigned.
• Count out-of-stock products when assigned.
• Count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
