About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is responsible for providing customer service according to company policy, handling emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents. This role involves supervising all store personnel in the absence of the Store Director or Assistant Store Director, maintaining a high level of familiarity with company policies and procedures, and supervising the sales floor to ensure service and product replenishment. The PIC also replaces stock in displays, assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and helps other cashiers with computer, register, and scanner issues. Basic office functions to assist customers and personnel are also part of the role. Key tasks include operating the cash register, receiving payments, counting change, and bagging groceries. Assistance with customer carry-outs may be required if a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable. Additional duties may include completing close of day functions, counting out-of-stock products, and counting tills for other cashiers.

  • Use of peripheral vision and depth perception to move around store and push carts in aisles.
  • Near vision used to operate scanner, make change, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Hearing to converse with customers, provide service, and receive questions from employees and customers.
  • Ability to answer pages and telephone.
  • Speech to respond to customers and employees and use intercom/telephone.
  • Job responsibilities include tasks or duties that could affect the safety or health of the employee performing the task or others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service as defined by the employer and company policy.
  • Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents.
  • Supervise all store personnel during the absence of the Store Director or Assistant Store Director.

  • Supervise the sales floor to monitor service and replenishment of products.
  • Replace stock in displays surrounding the checkout area.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment within the store.
  • Assist other cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
  • Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
  • Operate electronically scanning cash register to total customers’ final bill.
  • Receive payment for customer purchase and count back correct change.
  • Bag groceries in paper, canvas, or plastic bags.
  • Lift bags into grocery cart.
  • Offer customer assistance with carry out, and perform that task if a Courtesy Clerk is not available.
  • May be responsible for completing close of day function in the office.
  • May be responsible for counting out of stock product.
  • May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
  • Other duties as assigned.
