About The Position
Join our Community Development team and help residents, contractors, and businesses bring great projects to life in one of Arizona’s most beautiful cities! As a Permit Technician, you’ll be the friendly expert guiding customers through permits, applications, inspections, and city processes — all while keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3-5 years' experience in customer service, permit issuance, administrative and clerical work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of Permit Technician certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) at hire.
- Commissioned as a Notary Public in the State of Arizona based on department need.
- Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
- Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
- Candidate that does not possess the required certifications at the time of hire, will be considered a probationary trainee until certifications are obtained with a maximum of one (1) year.

- Customer service experience in the construction industry as it relates to the building permit process.
- Superior time management, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Dependable and flexible, with the ability to multitask.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers at the front counter, by phone, and online
- Process permit applications and construction documents
- Coordinate inspections and route plans for review
- Maintain records and permit tracking systems
- Help contractors and residents understand permit requirements
- Work closely with planners, inspectors, and engineers
