About The Position

The Permit Specialist is responsible for developing TCP, coordinating, obtaining, tracking, and maintaining permits required for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), utility locating, surveying, and related field investigation activities. This position serves as the primary liaison between the company, municipalities, transportation agencies, utility owners, and regulatory authorities to ensure all permits and traffic control plan approvals are secured in a timely manner to support project schedules and compliance requirements. T2 Utility Engineers specializes in providing reliable underground and above-ground utility information to reduce the risks that utilities present for infrastructure projects. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Traffic Control Supervisor card and current flagger certification.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies, utility providers, clients, and internal teams.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Planning, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of developing traffic control plans, permitting, construction administration, utility coordination, surveying, engineering support, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working with municipal, county, DOT, or utility permitting processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience in engineering consulting, surveying, utility engineering, construction, or SUE environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes for public rights-of-way, utility investigations, and construction activities.
  • Familiarity with utility infrastructure and Subsurface Utility Engineering practices preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Experience with permit tracking software, project management systems, or GIS applications is a plus.
  • May require occasional travel to project sites, agency offices, or client meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare traffic control plans, submit, and manage permit applications for SUE, utility locating, surveying, vacuum excavation, traffic control, and related field activities.
  • Coordinate permit requirements with cities, counties, state agencies, transportation departments, utility owners, and other governing entities.
  • Track permit statuses and ensure timely renewals, amendments, and closeouts.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, approvals, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
  • Review permit conditions and communicate requirements to project managers and field personnel.
  • Coordinate traffic control permits and right-of-way access approvals as required.
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively identify permitting requirements that may impact project timelines.
  • Work closely with utility companies and municipal agencies to obtain necessary approvals for field investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing excavation, utility investigations, and public rights-of-way.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standardized permitting procedures and tracking systems.
  • Generate reports on permit activity, deadlines, and compliance status.
  • Respond to agency requests for additional information and resolve permitting issues or delays.
  • Support project teams with administrative and regulatory documentation as needed.
