About The Position

To provide consistent instructional support and supervision for students by serving as a dependable substitute teacher and assisting with the coordination of substitute coverage to ensure continuity of school operations and student learning. This position is subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools. Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must hold a valid Alabama Teacher Certificate or a valid Alabama Substitute Teacher License.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and practices.
Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, patience, flexibility, and adaptability in a variety of school settings.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community members.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage classroom routines, instructional materials, and assigned responsibilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with Board policies and applicable laws.
Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.
A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity.
Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law.

Responsibilities

Serves as a primary point of contact for teachers reporting absences and assists in coordinating classroom coverage needs.
Coordinates and supports substitute teacher assignments and related substitute activities within the school.
Provides classroom instruction and supervision as a substitute teacher when assigned.
Implements lesson plans, instructional activities, and classroom procedures provided by the regular classroom teacher.
Facilitates the placement and assignment of substitute personnel to ensure continuity of instruction and student supervision.
Communicates teacher-provided plans, assignments, schedules, and expectations to substitute personnel as needed.
Maintains a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment that supports student achievement and positive student behavior.
Monitors and supports the effective implementation of instructional activities and classroom responsibilities by substitute personnel.
Assists with instructional, supervisory, clerical, and school-related duties when not assigned to a substitute teaching role.
Supervises students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and staff to support school operations and student success.
Maintains accurate records and documentation related to substitute assignments and duties as required.
Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, flexibility, and positive interpersonal skills in all interactions.
Participates in required meetings, training sessions, and professional learning activities.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee.
