About The Position

Food Lion's Perishable Associate provides quality customer service within the Perishable Department, maintaining department standards in accordance with the standard practice manual. The role supports sales through excellent customer service and minimizes shrink through proper utilization of standard practices. The associate receives, stores, rotates, prepares, conditions, and displays merchandise in accordance with company policies and guidelines. Department products include meat, lunchmeat, frozen foods, dairy, and ice cream. The role may include processing beef and grinds, wrapping and labeling meat, and assembling, disassembling, and cleaning the grinder. The associate maintains product levels, variety, layout, cleanliness, and food safety, while following workplace safety procedures and applicable regulations. The position requires customer service and teamwork, use of company tools and communication systems, completion of required training, and the ability to perform the listed physical duties. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Ability to stand 100% of the time and frequently walk short distances.
Ability to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning and packaging materials.
Frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, and occasional reaching above shoulder or below waist level.
Ability to meet established volume activity standards for the position.
Ability to tolerate extreme hot or cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.

Responsibilities

Provide fast, friendly, and accurate customer service and maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness.
Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
Understand and use company tools, including the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering (CAO).
Receive deliveries, code products where applicable, rotate merchandise, and place it in the appropriate storage area.
Ensure ordering, receiving, preparation, conditioning, and display of merchandise follow company policies and guidelines.
Maintain proper product levels throughout the Perishable Department, including meat, lunchmeat, frozen foods, dairy, and ice cream.
Process beef and grinds as directed by the planned production tool or as requested or needed.
Wrap, label, weigh, and stock the meat case as requested or needed.
Assemble, disassemble, and clean the grinder as requested or needed.
Clean and sanitize the department properly.
Maintain variety and layout standards.
Ensure applicable advertising and sales promotion materials are properly used.
Understand and adhere to company guidelines, policies, and standard practices.
Follow Food Safety and Workplace Safety guidelines and procedures.
Observe and correct unsafe conditions that could cause associate or customer accidents.
Report associate and customer accidents according to established Food Lion procedures to the Manager on Duty.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Wear the Food Lion uniform and apron with name badge while on duty, maintain a neat and clean appearance, and follow the dress code.
Complete Computer Based Training (CBT), Training Packet, and Training Aid courses.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
